Covenant House Florida recently received a significant grant in support of its M.O.M. (More Opportunities for Moms & Babies) project from the Salah Foundation. Covenant House Florida provides shelter and services for homeless youth under age 21, including teen moms and their babies.
“Many thanks to the Salah Foundation for supporting our efforts to serve vulnerable teens and young adults,” said James M. Gress, Covenant House Florida executive director. “We often think of our young moms as children themselves … children bringing up children. They need all the help they can get, and we’re grateful to provide them with this vital curriculum.”
M.O.M. (More Opportunities for Moms) provides a specialized curriculum targeting runaway and homeless youth who are pregnant or young parents. In order to maximize participation among residents who may be attending school, working, or following up on appointments or referrals, instruction is arranged according to each participant’s individual schedule. Topics covered include childbirth, safety, infant feeding including breastfeeding, nutrition, crying/comfort measures, baby care basics, child health visits and immunizations, signs of illness, adjustment to parenthood, domestic violence
